Child Poverty Bill
This bill enshrines in law a duty to eradicate child poverty by 2020 in the UK. In summary it will establish 4 income targets to be met by 2020 which are the following:
| Relative Poverty |
Less than 10% of children living in relative low income poverty by 2020 (i.e in households with less than 60% of the median income) |
| Material Deprivation |
Less than 5% of children living in combined material deprivation and low income (i.e in households with less than 70% income) |
| Persistent Poverty |
Percentage of children living in relative poverty for 3 out of 4 years (target level to be set by the end of 2014 as data is currently unavailable) |
| Absolute Low Income |
Absolute low income: Less tha 5% of children living in families with an income below an absolute threshold |

Healthy Lives: Brighter Future
The Government has published its long term vision of a 21st Century children's health service aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of all children, including £340 million to support children with disabilities and their families.
The joint strategy Healthy lives, brighter future: the strategy for children and young people's health - published by Children's Secretary Ed Balls and Health Secretary Alan Johnson - sets out for the first time what children and their families can expect from child health services in their areas from birth through to the age of 19

PARENTS' ACTION GROUP LAUNCHES 24/7 SUPPORT LINE FOR FAMILIES AFFECTED BY CANNABIS
The parents' group and charity Talking About Cannabis is delighted to announce the launch of its 24/7 FAMILY SUPPORT LINE which goes live on Monday 12 January 2009. This is a free, confidential service. Staffed by fully trained volunteers, the line will provide round-the-clock support for families whose lives are being affected by cannabis. Most of the volunteers have either first-hand experience of dealing with cannabis abuse within their own families, or are experienced drugs counsellors.

New Booklet to encourage under represented groups to the Childrens Workforce
The Children' Workforce Development Council (CWDC) has produced a booklet aimed at encouraging people who are currently under-represented to consider joining the children's workforce. It contains information aimed specifically at disabled people, those returning to work after a break/unemployment and older people.
