The Safeguarding Standards are available on the website link below:

The Safe Network

The Safe Network is launching a new set of standards, designed to help your club or organisation keep young people safe.

Accessible, up-to-date and easy to use, the Safe Network Standards aim to ensure that work undertaken by groups and organisations is:

  • as safe as possible
  • enjoyable and rewarding for all involved
  • compliant with legislation.

The Safe Network Standards framework

The Safe Network Standards: Core standards and guidance for safeguarding children in the voluntary and community sector, are a set of national core standards, designed to help non-statutory organisations put in place clear safeguarding arrangements for children and young people.

The Safe Network Standards cover four essential safeguarding areas:

  • safer staff and volunteers – recruitment, induction and supervision
  • child protection
  • preventing and responding to bullying
  • avoiding accidents and running safe activities and events.

The Safe Network Standards self-assessment tool

By registering on the Safe Network website, you are also be able to access an interactive self-assessment tool. This covers all the elements of each standard and helps you determine your organisation's strengths and where it needs to improve its safeguarding practice.

The NSPCC and Children England Launch a New Safe Network

This is a new £2.2m unit managed by the NSPCC and Children England to help protect eight million children taking part in voluntary activities.

The Safe Network is tailored for the safeguarding support needs of the Third Sector following its Staying Safe consultation with charitable and voluntary organisations.

children

The Safe Network aims to build capacity of third sector organisations in England to safeguard children with matters such as:

  • assisting organisations to put policies and procedures in place to prevent abuse within their activities or services
  • equipping staff and volunteers to recognise children who may be at risk within their home or wider community and to take appropriate action
  • helping organisations introduce safer recruitment arrangements to ensure they have the right people working with children. This will include advising them on the implementation of the new Vetting and Barring arrangements

To find out more about this new network then have a look at their  brilliant website. They provide information on carrying health checks, free get started packs and also work together with Edu care to provide Free Training on Child Protection to Voluntary & Community Groups.
You are all encouraged to sign up to receive updates and news from the site.

LSCB Supports the Voluntary Sector in Developing Good Practice

All practitioners working with children and families have a responsibility to become familiar with the local procedures for safeguarding children and young people both within their own organisations and those of the Local Safeguarding Children Board.

On 31st March the Luton Safeguarding Children Board in partnership with VISION 4CYP held an event to inform and equip the voluntary sector with the knowledge to ensure that each organisation has appropriate policies and procedures to keep the children and young people safe, including issues of recruitment, appropriate training, e-safety etc.

During the event VISION 4CYP and the LSCB launched their new safeguarding pledge that offers a framework to which organisations can assess their practices and then when they feel that they meet the quality standards, can apply for a Safeguarding Pledge Mark to use on their promotional materials to reassure families of your commitment to keeping young people safe.  To find out more about the pledge and how your organisation can take part.  For more details click here.
