These policies and procedures have been developed by CVS to assist local voluntary or community organisations in developing their own policies. Below are some of the common policies that any new or developing organisation will be required to have in place.
Policies should be customised to meet the needs of your organisation, as no two groups are alike and should be adopted by the trustees or managing committee of the organisation.

Health and Safety Policy
Below are two documents which you can download for organisations with at least one employee:
- The first is a guidance booklet produced by the Health and Safety Executive – it was written for small businesses but applies equally well to voluntary organisations that employ staff.
- The second document is a Word document based on the HSE guide which you can adapt to suit your organisation.
Please work through the HSE booklet – there are notes on each part of the policy which tell you how it applies to you – and amend the Word document as you go. Then all you need to do is format the word document in your organisation’s normal style, and then get your Trustee Board to adopt and sign it.
