Bossard House, home to Voluntary and Community Action, Citizens Advice Bureau and the Registrar is in the process of being transformed into a new Citizone Point of Presence (PoP).
Once open, the PoP will allow local people to use services from the district, county and town councils, give Voluntary and Community Action extra space to meet their growing needs (including interview rooms and additional space for visitors to use our funding and library resources), and will update the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) facilities.
Councillor Carole Hegley, who has Executive
responsibility for customer service said “Instead of needing to go to different buildings
or using different phone numbers, residents will be able
to view planning applications, report damaged road signs and find out what day their green bin will be collected,
all under the same roof." The added bonus is that these same residents will be more aware of services on offer at CAB and Voluntary and Community Action, and in particular the Volunteer Centre will be able to promote volunteering to many new local people.
Cost
The estimated cost of the refurbishment and extension is calculated at £400K. Voluntary and Community Action have secured a ChangeUp grant of £48K towards capital expenditure and Bedfordshire County Council are contributing £100K leaving South Bedfordshire District Council to fund the rest of the work.
Building Works
Work began in November 2006 and is scheduled to be complete by early April 2007. During this time there will be some disruption to services and we will do our best to keep this to a minimum. Visitors will need to park in the adjoining West Street Multi-Storey Car Park as there are no parking spaces at Bossard House.
