Learning to Drive
Trustees play a vital role in our local voluntary and community sector and without their time and commitment many groups would cease to exist.
Being a trustee can be a rewarding experience. It can also be very challenging. This event will give you the chance to:
- sign up for an interactive e-learning programme designed specifically for trustees
- get up to speed on legal and policy issues
- network with other trustees
- share good practice and ideas
- problem solve in a friendly and supportive environment
- build your confidence as a trustee.

This is for you if you are ...
- new and recently appointed trustees and committee members of local voluntary organisations and community groups
- anyone wanting to update their knowledge and brush up on key matters affecting their role as a trustee of their group.
Programme Content
Members will sign up for ‘Learning to Drive’ – a free e-learning programme for trustees and will work through the course on their own computer, in their own time and at their own pace.
Areas covered will include:
- Introduction to Trusteeship
- Financial Matters
- Leadership
- Good Governance
- Roles and responsibilities
- Complying with the Law
- Building an Effective Committee
- Managing People
- Business Planning
- Effective Trustee Meetings
Laptops will be available at the first session to register members and to introduce the programme. If you would like to take part but don’t have a computer, we can offer (one or two people only) use of a computer at our office. You can also access computers at local libraries.
Facilitator
The sessions will be facilitated by our Development Officer, Jenny Allthorpe, who will be on hand to provide information and support. Refreshments will also be provided.
Venue
The network sessions will be held in the Community Room at Bossard House, Leighton Buzzard LU7 1DA. This venue is fully accessible with parking available immediately adjacent to Bossard House (please DO NOT use the multi story car park, which closes at 7pm).
Access and Individual Requirements
If you have any specific individual requirements to enable you to attend this event please let us know. Every effort is made to meet individual requirements, which might include; a loop system, sign language interpreter, wheelchair access, handouts in large print or special dietary requirements.
