This workshop is for people who are responsible for recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers and who want to make volunteering a positive experience for all involved.

By the end of the workshop participants will:
- understand the importance of being clear about why and how we use volunteers
- know what is involved in recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers
- know which polices and procedures need to be in place
- understand how to motivate and retain volunteers
During the day these subjects will be looked at:
- why we want to use volunteers
- benefits and impact of using volunteers
- being clear about the roles and tasks of volunteers
- how to identify the skills, knowledge and experience needed for volunteer roles
- how to manage volunteers and their work – how this is different from managing paid staff
- policies, procedures and volunteer agreements – what they should cover and how to develop them
- support and encouragement, building skills and motivation
- approaches for dealing with common problems and pitfalls
- practical matters, including legislation, health and safety and insurance
The day will be practical and interactive, drawing on participants’ own experience and knowledge.
Venue
This training will be held in the Community Room at Bossard House, Leighton Buzzard LU7 1DA. This venue is fully accessible with parking available immediately behind Bossard House in the multi-storey car park.
