93% of organisations have between one and five vacancies on their board, so chances are you’re amongst them. In fact 43% of boards report that they are finding it harder to recruit trustees now, than they did five years ago.
In response to this Volunteer Centre Central Bedfordshire have launched a Trustee Recruitment Campaign. You can read the press release and download the leaflet 'Donate Your Skills' for more information.
Any local organisations wishing to recruit new trustees, or volunteers in Bedfordshire, should get in touch with either Rebecca or Janet at the Volunteer Centre to register their vacancies (01525 850559 or volunteer@action-centralbeds.org.uk).
Resources
Voluntary and Community Action have produced the following information sheets to support trustees
Trustee Recruitment Toolkit
You may also find it useful to consult the Governance Hub’s downloadable Trustee Recruitment Toolkit (PDF - 353KB and 74 pages). It sets out good practice for seeking the best people to govern voluntary and community organisations. Vital steps in the trustee recruitment process include:
- reviewing your board to identify gaps in skills, experience and perspective
- writing a trustee role description
- promoting your vacancy via open recruitment methods
- planning induction and support for new recruits.
The Toolkit is a practical resource which addresses these, and other, important considerations. It’s actually just one of hundreds of resources for boards which the Governance Hub has collated in its Resource Finder. www.governancehub.org.uk
