Local Group Needs Volunteer Club Assistants And Drivers
Dunstable & District Disabled Persons Typing Club was formed almost 40 years ago, with the aim of teaching adults with physical disabilities how to type.
Members can still learn typing and now also computer skills, but these days the club is primarily a social event and improves the quality of life for members through social activities and outings.
For some members it may be one of very few opportunities to escape the isolation of their home. Unfortunately, a desperate shortage of volunteer drivers means that not everyone who wants to attend the weekly meetings in Dunstable can always do so.
The Club also requires Volunteer Club Assistants, to help set up and clear away before and after each meeting and be on hand during the evening. Ideally Club Assistants will have a good working knowledge of computers and/or typing but this is not essential; a friendly attitude and willingness to help are more important. Club Assistants receive ongoing support from the Club Leader.
Volunteer drivers with their own transport are needed to pick up members at 7pm and take them home after the club finishes at 9.30 pm on Fridays. Cars should be five door for easy access. Expenses are offered.
The above are just two from hundreds of volunteering opportunities in the Dunstable area. Contact Lucy, Rebecca or Janet at Volunteer Centre South Bedfordshire, tel. 01525 850559 to find out more, request a Volunteering Directory or to arrange an informal chat.
