Out now – new Volunteering Directory
A new Volunteering Directory has just been published and is available now from the Volunteer Centre South Bedfordshire.
The Directory includes useful information about volunteering, frequently asked questions, and quick quizzes to help identify what type of volunteering would suit each person, as well as listing the hundreds of volunteering opportunities in South Bedfordshire.
Local community groups and charities need help in all sorts of ways, so whatever your skills, interests or experience; whether you can volunteer during the day in term time only or just at weekends, something is sure to appeal.
You can help children learn to read, assist with refreshments at a social club, provide valuable friendship and support to a person in need, or lend a hand gardening or with conservation projects. If you’re keen to get back to work but feel you need to brush up on your skills or learn a few new ones, volunteering could be the perfect start. It means you can gain confidence and ability in a non-pressurised environment while helping a worthwhile cause, and you don’t have to lose your entitlement to benefits.
To help you choose the right opportunity, the Directory lists volunteering opportunities arranged by type of activity (eg administration, marketing); type of organisation (eg school, charity shop); and by area of interest (eg sports or environment and conservation).
The Volunteer Centre can provide further information about any of the opportunities and organisations listed, as well as practical advice and help in matching a volunteer’s interests, skills and availability with appropriate opportunities.
To request a copy of the new Volunteering Directory or to find out more about volunteering in your local area, contact Lucy, Rebecca or Janet at the Volunteer Centre South Bedfordshire, tel. 01525 850559.
