Get Involved during Volunteers' Week

Volunteers’ Week is a national celebration of volunteers and volunteering which runs from 1 June to 7 June each year.  It plays a huge part in raising the profile of the UK's 22 million volunteers, while individuals are encouraged to find out more about volunteering.

The Volunteer Centre South Bedfordshire has over 600 volunteering opportunities in your local area.  They will have displays at both Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable Library from Thursday 31 May - Friday 15 June. Why not drop in and take a look. Volunteer Centre staff will also be on hand to answer your queries and discuss opportunities on the following dates: Leighton Buzzard Market Charity Stall 5 June, Leighton Buzzard Library 4 June (11am – 2pm) Dunstable Library 6 June (1pm-4pm) and Dunstable Market Charity Stall 13 June.

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, have fun and learn new skills.  There are a variety of volunteer opportunities from gardening to animal fostering, web design to administration, dog walking to youth work.  There is something for everyone, whatever your age, skills interests or experience.  If you want to find out more and get involved, visit them on the stands, call the Volunteer Centre on 01525 850559 or email volunteer@action-southbeds.org.uk.

Notes to Editors

1 Volunteer Centre South Bedfordshire is based in Leighton Buzzard. Contact the Volunteer Team on 01525 850559 or email volunteer@action-southbeds.org.uk. The Volunteer Centre is the first point of contact for anyone interested in finding out about local volunteering opportunities, and every year help hundreds of local people become actively involved in their communities.

2  In England, half of all people have volunteered (formally or informally) at least once a month. This translates to 20.4 million people. This is a significant increase from 2001 (47% and 18.8 million people), http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/citizensurvey.html

3  Volunteering England works to promote volunteering as a powerful force for change, both for those who volunteer and for the wider community. For further information go to www.volunteering.org.uk or call 0845 305 6979
