Statement of Community Involvement

If you would like to be involved in housing development, green belt review and other planning issues…….this event will give you a chance to understand how you can get involved in future planning consultations.

The consultation event will give you the opportunity to view displays, talk to South Bedfordshire District Council (SBDC) Planning and Community Involvement Officers and provide feedback on the draft Statement of Community Involvement. Call in at Bossard House anytime between 3.00pm and 7.30pm. No need to book, just turn up.

A major overhaul of the planning system has taken place nationally, a key principle at the heart of this overhaul is community engagement.

SBDC would like your views on their draft Statement of Community Involvement, which states how and when people are consulted on planning decisions, how they will be involved in forming new planning strategies and what involvement is proposed for creating the new Local Development Plan for the district.

Held at:

Thursday 13 October 2005
3.00pm - 7.30pm
Bossard House, West Street,
Leighton Buzzard, LU7 1DA

For more information see South Bedfordshire District Council's Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

The Statement of Community Involvement covers planning processes from neighbourhood level to largescale land developments. As a member of the voluntary and community sector, your organisation could benefit from understanding how the council intends to carry out its community engagement duties.

Essentially, the council wants to know if what is proposed in the Statement of Community Involvement will work for your voluntary organisation or community group.

Voluntary and Community Action South Bedfordshire is working with SBDC to help you explore this.

Our first aim is to help you understand what the Statement of Community Involvement is and how it is different from the old planning system.

Our second aim is to help you understand what is required when drafting the Statement of Community Involvement. We would then like your feedback on the draft.
