03/09/09 - Building a Culture of Participation

Adapted from the original course specifically for the third sector, this one-day Ready Steady Change course is a selection of training methods and tools (from each section of the original course) to build skills and knowledge in increasing children and young people’s effective participation in decision-making. Focusing on values, change and action, Ready Steady Change approaches participation from a children’s rights framework and is suitable for all individuals involved in participation work.

17/09/09 - Transferring 16-18 funding to LAs: the state of play

Donald Rae of REACT will be joining us to provide an update on the transfer for 16-18 LSC funding to Local Authorities and 16-18 apprenticeships to the SFA. In addition the event will examine the steps that need to be taken by LAs more broadly to meet their statutory responsibilities when the participation age is raised to 17 in 2013 and 18 in 2015.

21/09/09 - Demonstrating Need and Understanding Outcomes

This workshop will build on the skills you gained from the Fit for Funding workshop and will:

  • explain how to identify and explain need for your work
  • define aims, outcomes, targets and milestones

13/10/09 - First Aid for Appointed Persons
This workshop will provide you with an Appointed Persons certificate in First Aid, valid for three years, as a nominated person to take charge in an emergency. It is suitable for small organisations that require a member of staff or volunteer to have basic lifesaving skills.

We are also running this course over two Thursday evenings on 4 and 11 February 2010 at 7pm to 9pm – we are taking bookings for this workshop.

19/11/09 – Financial Controls

This workshop will enable you to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of your financial systems. It will show you how to set up appropriate systems to improve efficiency and help you to produce or review your financial controls policy. Many organisations must now provide a financial  policy as a condition of a grant, contract, or service level agreement.

26/11/09 – Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults

Essential training for anyone working with adults who may be vulnerable because of age, illness, disability, domestic violence or drug and alcohol misuse. Recognise signs of abuse, learn how to deal with suspicions of abuse and the importance of having clear guidelines and procedures. Learn about the new Vetting and Barring Scheme.

28/01/10 - Charities - Tax and VAT

Although Tax and VAT are now both dealt with by HM Revenue and Customs, there are still differences in the charitable exemptions available, so it is important that you know how your charity could be affected from both a Tax and a VAT point of view.

02/02/10 – Empowering the Voluntary Sector to Influence Public Bodies
A chance to learn the basic principles of public law and understand when a public body has not acted lawfully.
